I am a sucker for the beach. Ever since I can remember I have always been drawn to water. As a child I looked forward to a bath because I would be able to play in the water. I was always the first one in the pond, lake, river, stream, or pool back home. It comes as no surprise that the ocean would hold the same appeal. Living in Alabama now I have the chance to visit the Gulf of Mexico and enjoy the white sand.
Throughout my life I have visited the Atlantic Ocean in Florida, the Pacific Ocean in Southern California and Hawaii, and now the Gulf of Mexico. Honestly as much as I love California and its lifestyle and beaches, I would have to say their beaches are not as beautiful as the Gulf. The only beaches better I have visited are those in Hawaii. That shouldn’t come as a surprise. Since I work for the magazine Coastal Living I get to look at beautiful pictures of the best beaches all over the world every day, all day. It is enough to drive a landlocked boy crazy! Good thing I have a window to look out of and see something other than my computer screen and the walls around me.
Over a month ago I went with several friends and visited Gulf Shores Alabama. We stayed for two days and lived it up as much as possible. Swimming in the Gulf at midnight, playing with Jellyfish, building sand castles, sleeping on a towel on the beach, reading a book under an umbrella, wake-boarding in the waves, swimming, throwing a frisbee, getting buried in the sand, watching the sun rise through blurry eyes, relaxing in the sunset, enjoying the smell of sunscreen, walking along the beach for miles, eating great food and taking pictures. I couldn’t have been happier, though like any vacation I came back from it more exhausted than when I left for it. I though I would share a little slice of that weekend paradise I was able to enjoy.
